SCORES of Bosai workers were involved in a picketing exercise on Thursday outside of the company’s main compound, seeking the attention of management as it relates to their salary increase. The workers were forced to commence the picketing exercise as they were notified that the General Manager, Mr. Yuan Zhilun, would be leaving the country for a month’s vacation.

While many of the workers were reluctant to speak with the media, they were chanting for speedy negotiations between management and the union, as they believe that management is intentionally stalling the process of deciding salary increase to nothing less than nine per cent.

Speaking anonymously, an employee revealed that the union has succeeded in securing an increase of only 4.5 per cent, and that is deemed unacceptable. “The company (refuses) to carry on the negotiation at the pace that the union provided to them; because it has been like this since April 01 (when) they would have started the negotiation, and to this point they only at 4.5 per cent increase in wages and salaries; and the union is saying that that is not enough for the time that the negotiation has been going,” revealed the employee.

The workers had secured an increase of 6.5 per cent last year, but are stressing that they had to settle for that as the negotiations had been stalled all year. The workers are calling for immediate negotiations bwcause the general manager is going on vacation.

“The general manager is going on vacation and is till a month after that we will probably hear something tangible, or a proper move,” said one employee.

The workers are also calling for more benefits, including increase in vacation time for veteran employees. They have managed to get the attention of Personnel Manager Ms. Trudell Marks, and the general manager and his delegates, who had promised to engage the union on the aforementioned issues.

The employees are, however, not satisfied with this move, and plan to continue their strike until they receive better results. The employees last protested in 2015 for increases in wages.
