Pitbulls ravage Knockers; Bounty trounce Vintage

HOCKEY action remained the centre of attention at the National Gymnasium on Tuesday night as the Guyana Hockey Board continued its LUCOZADE-sponsored indoor league In the first game, the GCC Pitbulls held nothing back in their demolition of the Old Fort Knockers.
The scoring for the Pitbulls began as early as the 3rd minute with Shaquille Leung leading the charge. However, Stephon Sprosta three minutes later drew the Knockers level through a penalty corner.
The Pitbulls would go on to assume the lead in the 8th minute with Meshach Sargeant scooting home before extending the lead through Leung two minutes later.
Knockers’ Robert Brumell pulled one back a minute later but Mark Sargeant’s 13th minute strike made it 4-2; Brumell added his second of the night and his team’s third in the 15th minute.
Leung returned in the 16th to reconstruct that two-goal lead at the half in favour of the GCC side and complete his hat-trick.
On the return, a trifecta of goals from Leung 22nd, 27th and 33rd ensured that the Pitbulls were now miles ahead of their competition though Stephon Sprosta managed to complete his hat-trick in the 38th as the game ended 8-4.
In the second game of the evening the GCC Bounty side overcame their Vintage counterparts 8-3.
Devin Hooper’s 2nd minute penalty corner followed by his penalty shot in the 10th had Vintage ahead early.
However, the Bounty side managed to untie themselves from that bind and draw level with their counterparts, due chiefly in part to successful conversions from Kevin Spencer in the 12th and Peter DeGroot in the 15th.
In the second half, Daniel Hooper in the 26th gave the Bounty side the lead for the first time in the game with Spencer adding his second in the 30th.
Steven Xavier joined the party for Bounty a minute later before Hooper completed his second in the 36th and Kareem McKenzie got on the score sheet in the 37th.
Eric Hing inked his name on the score sheets with two minutes to go but the side could not deny Spencer his hat-trick which came in the 39th and the 8-3 victory that followed a minute later.
