East Canje teen charged with stealing motorbike

NINETEEN-year-old Rayan Bynoe of Lot 435 Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme, East Canje Berbice was allegedly promised half of the proceeds from the sale of a stolen motorbike after the booty was delivered to its buyer in Georgetown. He was, however, nabbed along the Mahaica main thoroughfare after police, acting on a tip-off, stopped him on August 1st as he was biking to the city.

He appeared before New Amsterdam Magistrate Alex Moore and was granted $75,000 bail on a charge detailing that between July 28 and 29, at Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme, he stole a Honda CB 125 motorcycle, number CH 8603, valued at $292,000, property of Gibran Rollins, who had parked his motorbike under his home and later realised it had gone missing.

Rawlins subsequently made a report of his loss to the Central Police Station in New Amsterdam, and on August 1, at around 15hrs, his brother was travelling to Georgetown in a car when he observed the defendant riding the bike bearing the registration number.

Contacted, Rawlins travelled to the East Coast location, where his documents confirmed him as being the rightful owner of the motorbike.

Arrested, the defendant told investigators that an identifiable man named ‘Lil Zip’ had given him the bike to take to Georgetown, where it would have been sold for $140,000 and he would have received half of the proceeds.

The defendant was then arrested and taken to Central Police Station where a charge of simple larceny was instituted.

Bynoe is expected to return to court on September 2.
