TWO FEMALE Venezuelans were on Monday fined by City Magistrate Leron Daley for entering Guyana illegally.Evenny Bello, 23 and Candy Ramos, 33 were charged separately for entering Guyana illegally by sea on August 9, at Eteringbang, Cuyuni River and disembarking without presenting themselves to an immigration officer.
Speaking through an interpreter, the foreign nationals both pleaded guilty to the charge. The unrepresented women were fined $30,000 or 12 months’ imprisonment. They were ordered to be kept in police custody until they reached the nearest port of exit, from where they would be deported.
Almost two weeks ago 14 Venezuelans were fined and deported to their homeland after entering Guyana illegally for ‘betterment’, because of the economic crisis in their country.
“No work and no water!” the charged nationals said as they told the court that they had ventured into Guyana because they had no other alternative, since there was no food, jobs or clean water in their country.
