The Wonder of a Tree

TreeTrees are certainly one of the most fascinating things on our planet. Joyce Kilmer, struck by the wonder of a tree, came to the conclusion that it had to be made by God. Besides being beautiful, trees stand tall in keeping our environment in balance.
Trees take in much of the harmful carbon dioxide in our atmosphere and use it in the process of photosynthesis to make food for themselves. This process of trapping carbon dioxide may be referred to as carbon sequestration where the trees act as ‘carbon sinks.’ As carbon sinks trees play a major role in combatting climate change. Guyana’s approach to development takes into consideration the value of trees in combatting climate change. As such, our country is committed to sound management of our forests to prevent deforestation, while at the same time, it encourages green or environmentally friendly economic development.

Trees are not only carbon sinks, buy they also are the lungs of the earth, steadily releasing oxygen as a byproduct of photosynthesis. Without trees enough oxygen would not be available for people and other creatures to use. Trees invite wildlife and are a safe haven for many types of birds, insects and other animals. Trees also aid in preventing erosion, cooling the atmosphere and are a source of food and natural medicines.
Today is a great day to start thinking about planting a tree. Here are a few tree-planting tips:
