TWENTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD labourer Orell Cooke was on Friday remanded to prison by city Magistrate Judy Latchman for the murder of a man on Emancipation Day at Soesdyke.Cooke was not required to plead to the capital charge which alleged that he murdered John Knight on August 1 at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
Cooke’s lawyer Mark Conway explained that the father of two resided at Lot 70 Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara and was being charged wrongfully by the police.
Conway further pointed out that his client was arrested and charged for an offence that was not properly investigated by the police.
Police Prosecutor Vishnu Hunte explained that investigations were still ongoing into the matter and as such Magistrate Latchman adjourned the matter until August 13.
