Football fraternity mourns

THE Guyana football fraternity was thrown into a state of shock and mourning after it was revealed that Kevin Layne Snr, Manager of the Monedderlust FC of West Coast Berbice, passed away on Friday night.The 38-year-old Layne was on his way to the hospital to seek medical attention, after complaining of not feeling well, when he succumbed. Layne dedicated more than half of his life to building the Number Five Village facility and team. He was also pivotal in taking the side to the Guyana Football Federation’s top flight football competition – Elite League.
He leaves to mourn, his wife Nichelle, daughter Trevlyn,and son, former National U-17 captain Kevin Layne Jr.He will be remembered for his selfless contribution to the development of the ‘Beautiful Game’ in his Village, his county and country at large. Chronicle Sport joins the Guyana football fraternity in extending deepest condolences to the family.
Meanwhile, on hearing the news, president of the GFF, Wayne Forde, told Chronicle Sport,“Mr. Layne was a friend and colleague that invested enormously into football. He will be surely missed by the football fraternity. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family”.
