THE Guyana Defence Force ground Camp Ayanganna played host to the slaughter of Cummings Lodge Secondary at the hands of Bishops’ High School when the Digicel National Schools Football action continued in Georgetown with an 80-minute fixture.
The 7-5 score line in favour of the Carmichael Street-based institution began as early as the first minute with the first rundown being converted by Joel Morrison after he finished a through ball.
The Bishops’ High boys seemed on the offensive as three minutes later, Darin Chan rounded out his school’s second.
However, Cummings Lodge were determined to get on the scoresheet and did so from a corner in the 11th minute. The ball curled sweetly off the boot of Errol George into the net – the outstretched hands of the Bishops’ goalkeeper pushing it into the roof.
The East Coast-based school equalised in the 32nd minute through Britton Cypriano who completed an all-in-one play by pushing a through ball past the Bishops’ defender before sprinting down the field to collect it and slot the ball home.
They took the lead for the first time two minutes later through Fredrick Ketwaroo who capitalised on a poor Bishops’ High goalkeeper who caught the ball but spilled it when he hit the ground, ending the half in the lead.
However, Morrison returned to bring the game level again with his shot in the 41st minute before Lloyd Anderson’s shot (46th) gave Bishops’ the lead once more. That lead was short-lived as George returned to tie it up once more just one minute later.
The Bishops’ pushed on to take the lead once again through Anderson in the 49th before Lemar Williams (69th and 72nd) put Bishops’ High out front. He also scored an own goal after a scramble in the box.
Over at Leonora, Camille Institute thrashed the Canadian School of Arts and Sciences 7-0 with braces from Ralph Williams (7th and 35th), Kerry Barker (31st and 65th) as well as single strikes from Isaiah Sam (1st), Ronaldo Sim (55th) and Gavin Abrams (70th)
It was also a goal fest over at the Ministry of Education ground where Morgan Institute bludgeoned Mae’s High 18-0.
Five goals by Leon Richardson (1st, 28th,3rd, 54th, 69th) coupled with a hat-trick from Orin Moore (18th, 66th and 70th) and a brace from Akosi Jervis (55th, 67th) led the line.
Meanwhile, a host of single strikes from Nehomah Gomes (17th), Osafo Matterson (22nd), Daniel Nedd (31st), Andre Trotz (40th), Malachi Adonis (49th), Tyrese Rowley (61st), Tarell Edwards (68th) and Tariq Nelson (35th) also assisted.
