A BROKEN bridge has brought a number of woes to residents of Atlantic Ville, East Coast Demerara, causing one child to fracture her leg and creating a major hindrance to persons traversing the area.Numerous complaints have gone unattended over the past three years, even as residents continue to bemoan their plight.
The bridge is used as a main access point to the community so persons are left to take their chances traversing the dilapidated structure on a daily basis.
The distraught residents lamented that vehicle owners are frequently faced with punctured tyres or they are sometimes robbed at the bridge as they are forced to a crawl when crossing due to its current condition. In addition, heavy-duty trucks and buses use the bridge as a gateway route to the community.
Meanwhile, the calls have increased for a new bridge in order to boost the outlook of the community and ensure the safety of the residents.
