THE Guyana Olympics Association (GOA), in observance of International Olympic Day, will hold a 10km Fun Run/Jog/Walk in addition to a 10km Team Run Competition on Sunday, June 26 from 06:00hrs. The Fun Run is scheduled to commence at the YMCA, Thomas Lands. The route will take participants north on Camp Street, east along Carifesta Avenue and the Rupert Craig Highway to turn in the vicinity of the Access Road, Liliendaal. They will then continue west using Kitty Public Road, south into Vlissengen Road and finally west into Thomas Road to finish right back at the YMCA.
The run is open to persons 10 years and older and all participants will receive an IOC Certificate and a T-shirt.
The 10km Team Run Competition is a race and will commence at 06:30hrs following the same route as the Fun Run; starting and finishing at the YMCA.
Application forms for both the Fun Run and Team Run can be picked up from Olympic House at High Street. The forms must be stamped and signed by an authorised organisation official and delivered back to Olympic House no later than 15:00hrs on Wednesday June 22.
The teams for the Team Run must consist of four males and two females who must each complete the course to gain points for their team. Each organisation is allowed two teams. Monetary prizes will be awarded to the first three teams to finish, with first-, second- and third-placers receiving $72 000, $48 000 and $36 000 respectively.
No entries will be accepted for the competition after Wednesday June 22.
