Charged with growing marijuana plants

TWENTY-six-year-old Steve Caesars, a miner accused of the possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, where he denied the charge.

The court heard that Caesars of Epson Village, Corentyne on Sunday June 12, at a Arukamai Backdam, Mabaruma, North West District had 453 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He was remanded to prison and had his matter transferred to the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrate Court for August 2.

On Sunday, June 12, police conducted a drug eradication operation where a quarter acre field of about 300 marijuana plants ranging in height from one foot to six feet, was found under cultivation along with a camp. The field and camp were destroyed by fire.
