TWO men who were apprehended by police following a drug bust on Tuesday afternoon at Washington, West Coast Berbice appeared at Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court on Friday and were remanded to prison.According to reports, an alert traffic rank who was on his way to Berbice received some information and spotted a parked car at Washington Public Road, West Coast Berbice and he stopped there. However, one of two men who were standing next to the car ran away and the other threw away the car keys.
The cop managed to open the car doors and a quantity of cannabis sativa (marijuana) was found in tightly sealed packages in the back seat of the vehicle.
The suspect was taken to Weldaad Police Station where the illicit substance was weighed and it amounted to 7,200 grams, police said in a release.
The other suspect who had escaped was later apprehended in the backlands of Washington Village after the traffic rank called for backup and a search was launched.
