A man, who is so far unidentified, lost his life after a container truck crushed his head on Sheriff Street, Georgetown Tuesday afternoon.
He was dressed in a dark three quarter pants and shirt, while a loaf of bread and a bottle of soda were found next to his body, which was cordoned off by the police. Residents in the area described the man as a “Junkie.”
An eyewitness told this publication that the dead man, who is known to frequent prison often, usually does odd jobs in the area. This newspaper understands that the man had just bought the bread and soda, when the soda fell and rolled under the container truck in the vicinity of Sheriff and Garnett Streets at the traffic light.
“All I see is the man stretching to pick up the drink and like he get hook onto the container by his shirt, then when the container move off the back wheel crush his head,” the eyewitness said.
It is being alleged by eyewitnesses that the driver of the container truck was heading North on Sheriff Street and refused to stop even though the man was pinned underneath. [Rabindra Rooplall]
