NOTABLE DATES

NEDRICK Simmons aka Nedrae Simmons, was a southpaw super featherweight boxer who was born on February 14, 1960.He had his first professional fight in June 1981 in Canada, which became his adoptive homeland. Simmons lost his first four professional fights one of them being a defeat at the hands of fellow Guyanese Terrence Alli.
On April 26, 1983 Simmons challenged Tony Salvatore for the vacant Canadian featherweight title. The fight was held at the Paul Sauve Arena in Montreal, Quebec. After 12 rounds all three judges scored the bout in favour of Salvatore.
Simmons returned to Guyana in June 1986 and triumphed via a fifth-round technical knockout (TKO) over Dennis Dalrymple.
However, in his next trip to the land of his birth he did not gain success. Coming up against an 18-year-old Raul Frank, Simmons was defeated via points decision in a 10-rounder.
He fought another Guyanese in Glen Forde during January 1995 in Canada but lost by majority decision. In a career that spanned 15 years and included a bout against Kostya Tszyu,
Simmons picked up 13 victories against 27 defeats and two draws.
