PRESIDENT David Granger yesterday met with representatives of the Hamilton Lashley Human Foundation, a non-governmental organisation based in Barbados, which is currently on a preliminary visit to Guyana in preparation for the Caribbean Children’s Charity Shield Football Tournament. In a brief comment, the organisation’s representative Ms Tricia Browne said the inaugural tournament in 2014 was held in Barbados with the 2015 installment in Trinidad and Tobago.
This year, in commemoration of the 50th Independence Anniversary of both Guyana and Barbados, the organisers thought it fitting for Guyana to host the tournament with targets youths from at-risk communities.
Browne said that the six-day games will see over 500 players from Guyana, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago engage in friendly competitions that will facilitate not only lasting friendships, but also cultural exchanges as well.
There are an Under-14 division and an Under-17 division of the tournament which will run from August 20 to 31.
