Michael Ridley, 36, of Lot 182 Garnett Street, Albouystown, was remanded to prison on Monday for the murder of Troy Brutus. Ridley, a Fisherman, known as “Nice Guy” appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and was not required to plea to the indictable charge, which stated on November 22, 2015 at Albouystown he unlawfully killed Brutus.
Representing the father of three was Attorney-at-law, Euclin Gomes, who told the court that his client is not a flight risk since he was placed on $50,000 station bail during police investigations into the matter.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones successfully opposed bail citing the penalty attached to the charge and he will make his next court appearance on April 28.
The Guyana Chronicle had reported that 37-year-old Brutus of Castello Housing Scheme, West La Penitence went to the residence of Ridley and waited on him to return home from work.
Reports indicated that as Ridley entered his house around 19:00hrs, he was greeted by Brutus who dealt him several chops to his nose and hand.
Ridley managed to take the weapon from Brutus and chopped him about his body, fatally chopping him to the neck. Brutus was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Reports indicate that the brawl allegedly stemmed from Ridley being in a relationship with Brutus’ ex-girlfriend.
