Thanks for the visits, Hon. Prime Minister

Dear Editor,
DURING last week, Region 5 was blessed to have the Hon. Prime Minister and 1st Vice President visit on three different occasions; the first being on Thursday, March 24.On that day, the Hon. Prime Minister and his wife, Mrs Sita Nagamootoo, visited the Shieldstown Community, where they attended a church service and also distributed hundreds of kites to children of the community. The Prime Minister and his wife were warmly welcomed into the area by residents and members of the church.

What was most astonishing was when the motorcade of the PM was making its way back to Georgetown, the residents of West Berbice, both young and old, lined the roadside, waving and jumping, some shouting “Moses! Moses!”, while some of the veterans saluted the motorcade as the PM passed by.

This shows the amount of love the people of Region 5 have for the Hon. Prime Minister.

On Saturday, 26th March, 2016, the Hon. Moses V. Nagamootoo visited and also delivered the feature address at the inaugural West Berbice Business Expo and Trade Fair. Also in attendance were his wife, Mrs Seeta Nagamootoo, and the Hon. Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin.

The following day, the Hon. Prime Minister and First Vice President, along with his wife, visited the family of the sugar worker from Bath Settlement who was killed by Africanised bees while on duty.

At the Trade Fair the PM was greeted with hugs and kisses, and was welcomed by all. Mr. Editor, what amazed me was that when the Hon. Prime Minister walked around the booths of various companies and businesses, he was welcomed wholeheartedly by ALL, not some; ALL. Many rushed to have pictures taken with him and his wife.

Mr. Editor, I could not believe my eyes at what was taking place and the love displayed by the people of West Berbice for the Hon. Prime Minister. It amazed me the most when people of Bath Settlement, whom I know to be diehard PPP supporters, approached the Prime Minister and congratulated him on his becoming Prime Minister. The most astonishing part was when a man shook the hands of the Hon. Prime Minister and said, “You are a blessed man, and through your hands I am blessed.”

This shows that the people of West Berbice are becoming wiser day by day, and seem not to be listening to some politicians who want to divide this nation. This shows that our people are beginning to think for themselves; and moreover, are throwing the past behind them, so that we can have a better and united Guyana.

I must congratulate the people of West Berbice for showing that love and respect to others — no matter what race, religion or political background we are from. Let’s continue to show love for all, and let’s work towards moving Guyana forward as one.

I must also thank the Hon. Prime Minister and his wife for making those trips to Region 5; and I am appealing to you, Hon. PM, to have more visits to Region 5. Also, I assure you that all will welcome you with open arms.
Thanks for the visits.
