Region 10 has nine months to execute 2016 budget of $3B

THE REGION 10 administration is putting all systems in place to efficiently spend the budgetary allocation of $3B within the allotted time. With less than nine months left to have this done, considering the amount of projects to be executed in accordance with the Plan of Action for Regional Development (PARD), Regional Chairman, Renis Morian is determined to have those projects completed within the stipulated time.

This will avoid the recurrence of last year’s situation when monies were sent back because of the incomplete nature of projects before December 31.
The Plan of Action which encompasses the next five years, has in its agenda several infrastructural works to be done for 2016. This includes the constructing of bituminous roads throughout communities in Region 10.
Mr. Morian while addressing the residents of Linden on the budget revealed that roads were also being repaired and constructed by the Ministry of Public Infrastructure which eases the burden on the RDC to fulfil all of those expectations in a timely manner. In addition to road construction, the region will also see the construction of community bridges for which $39 M is allocated, cleaning and upgrading of the drainage system and a clean-up campaign in recognition of the 50th anniversary celebration, street lighting and the strengthening of river defence mechanisms. The budgetary allocation for public infrastructure totals $384, 459, 000.
For educational development the budget has allocated $1, 804, 766, 000. The chairman of the Regional Education Committee, Denise Belgrave, told the residents that priority was given to equipping schools and other educational institutions throughout the region with various appliances, furniture and classroom materials. Several schools will also see the setting up of a computer lab in which sufficient computer systems will be provided.

Teachers and students’ hostels will also see provision of home appliances and furniture. “Under education, we have a large input that will make our schools in Region 10 more conducive for teachers and students and we trust that we will be able to make all of these things possible under our budget,” posited Ms. Belgrave.
The platform administration has received an allocation of $225,556,000 and sees agriculture playing a pivotal role in this regard. Chairman of the committee, Douglas Gittens, highlighted several of the plans that would be executed under the 2016 budget, including the constructing of access roads from farms, so as to reduce the pressure of farmers having to transport their produce to the market. Several creeks will be excavated and farmers will be provided with seeds of several produce.
The regional administration is yet to unfold what is in store for the health sector. However, the Guyana Chronicle has been informed that $615,117,000 has been allocation in this regard. This is the first time that Region 10 has been allocated a budget of over $2.5 billion.
