Mekdeci, Wiltshire, Melville and Harding record victories

BENJAMIN Mekdeci, Larissa Wiltshire, Alec Melville and Makeda Harding all won their respective matches when the Guyana Squash Assopciation organised Kraft/ Toucan/ Digicel- sponsored Junior Skills level Tournament continued yesterday at the Georgetown Club CourtsThe victories for the trio will see them contesting the finals in their respective categories today at the same venue.
According to reports, in category `A,’ Mekdeci dropped his first game of the tournament in his match against Taylor Fernandes when he lost the third game, but still won 11/6, 11/4, 9/11, 11/5. Larissa Wiltshire ensured that she would not be one of the victims of her younger brother Shomari, when she defeated him in four games 11/6, 11/5, 6/11, 11/8. Alec Melville bounced back from two successive defeats when he won a hard- fought game against Alex Cheeks 11/8, 6/11, 11/8, 11/4.

In the lone match in Category `B’, Makeda Harding defeated Maya Collins 11/9, 11/1, 11/9.

Category ‘C’ produced another thrilling battle when Gianni Carpenter edged Ethan Jonas three games to two. Carpenter won the first game 11/6, but dropped the second game 9/11. He won the third game 11/7, but lost the fourth 11/8. Howeve, he was a comfortable winner in the fifth game 11/3. Jonas bounced back from this loss to then defeat Dominic Collins 11/9, 5/11, 11/3, 11/7. Samuel Ince-Carvahal had two victories in the morning session, firstly beating Demetrius De Abreu 11/1, 11/1, 11/2 and then disposing of Michael Alphonso 11/7, 11/4, 11/5.

In Category `D,’ Abosaide Cadogan recovered from her loss the previous evening to Madison Fernandes, to upset front -runner in the group Kirsten Gomes, who prior to this had not lost a match in the tournament. Kirsten won the first game 11/3 and then the second game 12/10, but Abosaide took the third game 11/3, and then the fourth 11/5. Abosaide then comfortably won the fifth game 11/3. Madison Fernandes then defeated Aliyah Persaud 11/5, 11/7, 11/6.
