Continental Agencies to continue sponsoring Chelsea Edghill

CONTINENTAL Agencies Ltd (CAL) through its lead brand Sunburst Juices has continued its support of Caribbean and National table tennis champion Chelsea Edghill by handing over sponsorship ahead of the 2016 Olympics qualifiers.

The company, through Marketing and Sales Manager of Continental Group of Companies, Avalon Jagnandan, handed over a cheque to Chelsea’s mother Deirdre Edghill recently.
Edghill, who became one of the youth ambassadors under the Sunburst Brand, commenced her partnership in 2013 while pursuing her quest for Junior Olympic qualification.
Jagnandan said that the company would like to commend Chelsea on her recent success at several international tournaments, and would like to wish her continued success in her upcoming tournaments, especially her quest for the Rio 2016 Olympics, to which the sponsorship goes.
Meanwhile, the 2016 qualifiers would have Latin America’s best table tennis talents on show but only five men and six women will qualify for the Olympic Games from this event. Each association is entitled to enter up to three men and three women players.
According to Chelsea’s mother, the three-time Junior Sportswoman, Caribbean champion, Junior Olympian 2014 and a prospect for 2020 Olympics has been identified by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
She will make the trip to the Latin American continental qualification championships in Chile along with team mate Trenace Lowe.
Chelsea is the recipient of a partial scholarship to pursue Undergraduate and Masters Studies in Chemistry Physics and Forensics from Lindenwood University, Missouri USA, based on her academic and sporting prowess.
Just recently, the Guyanese was the 2016 Regional division women’s champion and also won silver at the Arnold Schwarzenegger Butterfly table tennis challenge, gold at the Badger Open and she secured U-22 silver at the newly Table Tennis Open at Walsh University in Akron, Ohio.
The Scholarship has allowed her the opportunity to actively train, play and participate in high-level competition against top-level players on the intercollegiate circuit on a consistent basis, in view of achieving 2020 Olympics qualification. Her university is fourth in the intercollegiate rankings.
According to Godfrey Munroe, president of the Guyana Table Tennis Association, (GTTA) while Chelsea is a true prospect for 2020 qualification, having had some great performances to start the year, her quest for 2016 Olympics qualification will be enhanced.
It will also provide an opportunity to learn, play and compete against the best players in Latin America and re-establish her world ranking and establish her position for possible wild card Universal qualification.
