AS if to match the massive stature of the sponsor, Bish Panday, the P&P Insurance Brokers & Consultants Limited tournament last Saturday was massive in terms of the quality of golf produced and the camaraderie of the golfers involved in the day’s competition.For over three decades Bish Panday and his wife Ahalia have supported sporting disciplines of table tennis, cycling, horse racing, athletics and motor racing, among others.
In addition P&P Insurance Brokers and Consultants support cultural, educational, and charitable causes in an outstanding way.
Saturday’s winners were: 1st – veteran golfer Roberto Grissi – net 60 off handicap 28; 2nd – 2015 Guyana Open Female Champion, Shanella Webster 67/20; and 3rd – former Club President, David Mohamad – 68/18. In fact, veteran golfer Kishan Bacchus (4th place) also returned a net 68/17, but was one stroke more than Mohamad on the “Back Nine”. Meanwhile a fifth place tie of Club Vice President, Patrick Prashad (70/9); former President, Brian Hackett (70/21); and Troy Cadogan (70/25) made clear impression of their desire to be in contention for top 5 placement in future tournaments.
The indefatigable Shanella Webster was Nearest to The Pin while former Guyana teenage open Champion, Avinda Kishore, produced a fine Best Gross of 72. Closest to Kishore’s gross was Patrick Prashad with 79.
Firstt place Grissi expressed, “I used to be playing with a lower handicap years ago, but I was off the game for a while. In recent times I have been playing more and I believe this contributed to such a good game for me.” David Mohamad added that Grissi’s play was consistently superb throughout the tournament.
On the other hand, Naseer Khan, the Mighty Raja, – undeniably the person with the oldest attachment to the Lusignan Golf Club, having begun as a Caddy in 1964 – indicated that he had publicly predicted that Shanella would become a champion at golf, from the time he observed her superb swing and firm golf stance – 3 months after she started playing.
P&P Insurance General Manager Bish Panday, as he congratulated the winners and responded to the President’s outline of some of his significant contributions to Guyana, repeatedly expressed how happy he was to have been involved in the day’s sponsorship and to be sharing time with many of his friends from several disciplines.
He wished the Club well for the future and desired that their influences be used to improve the access road to the Club. .He also gave a commitment for P&P’s sponsorship for the next year.
Club President, Oncar Ramroop, adequately expressed heartfelt gratitude to Bish Panday on behalf of the Club.
