Lennox Beckles proved to be highly successful in 1966. Competing in the junior welterweight division he had five fights that year and finished without a defeat.The crafty Guyanese picked up his sixth stoppage in 24 fights when he knocked out American Dave Patterson on March 7, 1966.
The fight was held in Guyana and Beckles turned off Patterson’s lights in the ninth round of a bout scheduled for 10.
During that same year he would defeat both Eddie Perkins and Johnny DePeiza by Unanimous Decision.
Beckles started professional boxing in September 1960 and would have 10 fights before his first defeat. , His first lost came on May 16, 1964. Coming against Percy Hayles at the National Stadium in Jamaica, Beckles was defeated via a unanimous decision.
The slick boxer and one of the best produced by Guyana last fought in May 1979. Brian Muller was Beckles’ opponent then. The fight took place in Guyana on May 27, 1979 and Muller was adjudged the winner. Beckles won 33 fights, lost 13 and drew two. He now resides in Trinidad and Tobago and will turn 74 in October.
