Attorney-at-law Keisha Chase yesterday found herself on the wrong side of the law when she appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Chase was released on $250,000 bail. It is alleged that on November 10, 2015 at Duncan Street, Campbellville Public Road Chase drove motor vehicle PRR 8181in a dangerous manner causing the death of 47-year-old Julian Leitch of “C” Enachu Street, Bel Air Park.
Court reporters were barred from the hearing by a police officer who informed them that there was a “private matter” ongoing. However it was later confirmed that the officer’s claim was false.
The lawyer was represented by attorney Mark Waldron and the matter was prosecuted by Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones. Chase waited in the courtroom while her relatives posted bail and ran downstairs to the back entrance to a waiting car to avoid the media.
Almost six months ago Chase is alleged to have fatally struck Julian Leitch on Duncan Street, Georgetown. Reports stated that at about 18:30h, Leitch was attempting to cross the roadway when he was struck. Police in a release had stated that the driver reported that she was proceeding east along Duncan Street, when she heard a loud sound. Upon investigation, she saw the man lying on the road. He was then picked up by public-spirited persons, along with the driver, and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital. He reportedly suffered multiple abrasions to his body and died while receiving treatment at the medical facility.
