THE DUO accused of a series of robberies on the Kingston Seawall was Wednesday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan. Jason Thomas, 22, of Canje, East Berbice and Christopher Niles of Uitvulgt, West Coast Demerara appeared jointly on two robbery charges and denied the offence.
It is alleged that on February 22 at the seawall in Georgetown, they robbed Drusilla Drepaul of one hand bag valued $10,500.
It is further alleged that the same day at Kingston Seawall, they robbed Selville Happle of a wallet, a backpack and $5,000 in cash, altogether valued $22,000.
Police prosecutor Deniro Jones strongly objected to bail because of the nature of the crimes. Jones further pointed out that the two accused posed a flight risk since the men had given conflicting addresses to the police.
The court heard that the stolen items were recovered when the suspects were apprehended by police on patrol.
Both men were remanded to prison by the magistrate and their matter transferred to City Magistrate Alex Moore for March 15.
