AN 18-YEAR-OLD recently released prisoner was yesterday sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after pleading guilty to two counts of larceny. Winston Lang, an employee of Jettoo Lumber of Timehri, East Bank Demerara, accepted that on February 28 at Regent and King Streets, Georgetown, he stole from Leoni Robertson one Samsung Galaxy S3 cellular phone valued $40,000.
He also admitted that on the same day at Regent and King Streets, he also stole from Elizabeth Ramesaur a Samsung Galaxy S4 cellular phone valued $80,000
Lang further told the court that he was released from prison last Thursday and was out consuming alcohol with his friends. The teenager admitted that he was unaware of his actions because of his drunken state.
However, according to the prosecution, both victims were on their phones in a route 44 minibus sitting next to windows when Lang walked up and snatched both phones. An alarm was raised and police on mobile patrol quickly apprehended the teenager with the phones in his possession.
