THREE Immigration officers along with a female security officer were on Friday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after they made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged in connection with the discovery of 1.3 kilogrammes of cocaine on a Dynamic Airways aircraft in New York.Oral David, 29, of Non Pariel Park, East Coast Demerara; Orin Harris, 24, of Timehri; Raduskie Wright, 24, of No 77 New Housing Scheme, Corriverton, Corentyne; and 29-year old Dianne Jackson, a security officer attached to Roraima Airways of Soesdyke, pleaded not guilty to the charges which stated that at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, East Bank Demerara, they conspired with each other and other persons to traffic a quantity of cocaine on February 2, 2016.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones in his submission to the court stated that the police were in possession of three caution statements and an oral confession. He said that the recently established local office of the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) would be working along with the prosecution on the matter.
Wright’s lawyer Glen Hanoman told the court that the particulars did not constitute a criminal offence known to the laws of Guyana. He mentioned that police had no admissible evidence that drugs were seized, and not everything that was analysed in New York might be admissible in Guyanese courts.
According to a police report, the cocaine was found in the baggage compartment of the Dynamic Airways flight which landed at the John F Kennedy International Airport from Guyana.
