BARRINGTON Cambridge drew with Gustavus `Haversack’ Theobald on February 5, 1984 when the junior welterweight title of Guyana was at stake. Cambridge was undefeated in six fights going into the contest against Theobald, which was included on a card that saw Anthony `The Pearl’ Andrews knock out Ronald McBean and Charles Crawford defeat Leon `King Kong’ O’Neal.
Cambridge suffered his first defeat one fight later when he tackled Dennis Dalrymple. He was 23 years old when entering the professional ranks in 1981 with Roy Smith being the first scalp. Simeon Thomas and William Gordon followed in close succession.
Cambridge successfully defended his Guyana junior welterweight title in June 1988 following an eighth-round technical knockout (TKO) over Marcel Daniels. At the time he was a solid seven years older than Daniels.
The crafty fighter had defeated Patrick Farley by disqualification in his previous fight and later engaged in two clashes with Anthony `The Pearl’ Andrews and a similar number with Michael Benjamin. He lost and won against both. All four times the Guyana welterweight title was on the line.
Cambridge had his last of 28 professional fights on December 30, 2006 in Barbados.
