Gunplay, stabbing land duo in hospital

OVERSEAS-based Guyanese Colin Benjamin, 30, staying with relatives at First Ally, Wismar, is now a patient at the Mackenzie Hospital Complex, after he was stabbed several times in his abdomen when he attempted to revenge an attack on his female cousin. The incident occurred on Republic Avenue, Linden on December 30 at about 21:00 hrs, and the police report that Benjamin had exited the driver’s seat of a Toyota Premio, PNN 4839, and had reportedly brandished a handgun, discharging a round at 27-year-old Sherwin Benjamin of Amelia’s Ward, Linden.

The bullet hit Sherwin just above the knee, but Colin found that the weapon was malfunctioning, so he rushed the wounded Sherwin Benjamin, who had taken cover at the side of the car, and dealt him several lashes to his head with the gun.
According to an eyewitness, the two started a scuffle, and Sherwin Benjamin, who was in possession of a knife, reportedly stabbed Colin Benjamin about his body in an attempt to defend himself.

Both Benjamins are currently under police guard at the Mackenzie Hospital, and are in stable condition.
The police say they are not in possession of the weapon but have recovered a 9mm spent shell from the scene.

The incident originated from a Christmas Day party fight in which Colin Benjamin’s cousin, Bonnyann Bobb, was physically assaulted by a friend of Sherwin Benjamin.

This newspaper was told that Bobb attacked Colin Benjamin’s male friend, who retaliated and dealt her several lashes about her body with a piece of wood.

The police are currently investigating both incidents.
