UDFA/GT Beer quarterfinals on tonight

… Milerock face Rockers, Winners oppose Panthers

By Joe Chapman
THE Petra Organisation 2015 champions Milerock, going after the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA)/GT Beer championship, will seek a semifinal berth tonight when they face Net Rockers in the first game of a double-header at 18:30hrs, while defending champions Federal Winners Connection are up against Amelia’s Ward Panthers at 20:15hrs in matches set for the Mackenzie Sports Club ground. The holiday-style year-ending championship has attracted the support of the Linden football fans once again and the matches have been exciting indeed. Tonight’s first fixture will feature Milerock who will be led by their strong all-round unit with forward line players like Clarence ‘Shark’ Huggins, and Kester Randolph, while the midfield will depend on Ron Fiedtkou.
They will once again display their pure foot-balling skills against a Net Rockers side who have shown the talent but lacked consistency going for the big titles.
They are hoping that with the effort put in they can put together the game they are capable of and come out winners. They are a bunch which can play football with creativity, but they face formidable opponents in Milerock
The Rockers best hopes will be placed at the feet of goal-scoring forward Denzil Pryce, Colrick Beckles and emerging talent Shane Luckie, with the midfield led by Orande Wills and the defence shored up by middlemen Omeion Wills and Jermain Fordyce.
The second game tonight is between the reigning champions Federal Winners Connection who are taking on the challenge of Amelia’s Ward Panthers.
The champions have shown their mettle before and with the likes of their top scorer Rawle ‘Boney’ Gittens who continues to impress and the talented Marmalaque Davidson being a potent force with Carlos Blackman and veteran defender Wayne Bethune stepping up to the plate, this Winners Connection team can still be a force in this competition.
The Winners Connection will battle the Ward side who seem to be peaking at the right time. They were impressive in their previous game and with Ray Bobb-Semple and Jevon Babb in good scoring nick they have Marlon Simon and Kevin Plowell providing adequate support at the back then this game should be one worth seeing.
Tonight’s encounters are therefore being played in an atmosphere of joy and the several hundreds of fans will once again be there to witness this celebration.
