IN a comfortable finish in the final classic of the 2015 horse racing season, Spite Fire put in a superb performance to win the feature D and Lower race yesterday when the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) staged its annual Boxing Day horse race meet at the club’s track, Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice.

Jockey Colin Ross took control of the animal from the second turn to win the one-mile event and first prize of $1M.
It was no surprise for the packed turf club as the animal, out of Shariff Racing Stable, lived up to its pre-race tag.
The animals were off to an even break, but as they approached the second turn, Spite Fire moved ahead from the bunch and headed into the lead.
Spite Fire maintained the speed and as the animal progressed to the final turn, jockey Ross used all his experience to ensure the horse took to the front and in the end completed the race with a perfect finish.
Lady Budapest had to settle for second place while Good Will Boy and Keep on Swinging finished third and fourth respectively.
The co-feature event was a six-furlong race for horses E and Lower, with Precise Gold, Africanist, Chelsea and Right to Rule finishing in that order.
Despite the cancellation of the G and Lower race, chief organiser and president of the KMTC, Justice Cecil Kennard described the day’s event as a huge success.
Results for the other races are as follows:
L Class – Royal Stallion, Blue Lightning, Secret Thinker and Mystic
H and Lower – She is So Special, Cat Massiah, Cassie and Mary Ann
K and Lower – Plain Land, Golden Kiss, Red Region and Amazon Warrior
J and Lower – Party Time, The Girl is Mine, Affinity
Jockey Ross was named champion jockey, while Shariff Racing Stable was adjudged the best stable.
