THE National Sport Commission is mulling the idea of having outside contractors manage the data affairs of the planned national sport database, expected to begin operations in the New Year.Speaking to the media, Director of Sport Christopher Jones said that the NSC is currently in the analytical phase, stating: “I met with a company that is doing an online service that actually incorporates databasing. So I’m now looking to see if it is more feasible to have our database outsourced to a company within Guyana.”
“They will be able to go beyond having a database. They will be able to provide access to persons, who have an app system on their phones and they will be told where is the next football game in Guyana, who are the players participating and who scored what and a brief history of the player as well,” added Jones.
Primarily, the Director of Sport indicated that athletes entered into this database will be tracked and trained with the 2020 summer Olympics in mind.
The requisition for the equipment, which totals approximately US$3M, is already with the Ministry of Finance and is expected to be included in the 2016 national budget.
The first set of information that will be entered in the database will be taken from the recently concluded MoE/GTU National Schools Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships which concluded last week.
