Orphans treated in spirit of Christmas

SEVERAL non-governmental organisations (NGOs) yesterday joined forces to spread the joy of the Christmas season to orphans as part of their annual activities.The four-day event, which concludes today in Berbice, was hosted at the Carifesta Sports Complex on Carifesta Avenue, Thomas Lands.Ferris-wHEEL
Organisations that made contributions to the event included: The Give Foundation, Project Hope, Save Abee, Enforcers Car, Team MMR, and Lets Talk Lakshmi.
At the event, there was a bouncy castle, females dressed in beloved cartoon characters, merry-go-round, trampoline, Santa Claus, games to win prizes and a ferris wheel.
According to President of Enforcers Care, Sureain Sawh, a total of 23 orphanages were targeted from the Demerara Region to Berbice. The children were treated to gifts, snacks and entertainment.
He said persons involved are based out of New York, Canada, Florida, Canada and Guyana.

Meanwhile, President of Save Abee, Asha Tilak, says many children from various orphanages converge at the Carifesta Sports Complex to interact with each other where they understand they are not alone.
“We feel it’s our duty to make them feel special for the Christmas holiday, and for them to be a part of something more like a family interaction.”
She noted that Save Abee also has a computer school at Cotton Tree, Berbice where students are taught Maths and English.
“We will be opening another centre in January 2016 at Meter-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara,” she said.
