NGO in countrywide drive to spread cheer

GIVE Another Chance Foundation (GACF) hosted its first Christmas Tree Light Up at Arthurville Primary School Compound, Wakenaam.The 20-ft Christmas tree was the initiative of the founder of GACF Miranda Thakur-Dean and family. She wanted to ensure that the residents of Wakenaam enjoyed the same sentiments as other Guyanese.

The event also saw a cultural programme, where the students of Arthurville Primary School entertained the gathering, including Regional Councillor Perry Birbal, Justice Donald Trotman, Ameena Hinds, Regional Education Officers Shameer Shahid and Penelope McIntosh.

The non-profit organisation awarded Miss Wakenaam 2015 Diana Seymoore $100,000 towards her continued studies.

GACF in association with the Bank of Nova Scotia commissioned libraries at Arthurville Primary Nursery and Primary Schools, at a cost of $300,000, along with books and furniture in which more than 20 students preparing for NGSA will benefit.

In addition, 50 senior citizens received hampers from GACF totaling $300,000 and 300 children were gifted toys and goodies at a party with compliments of Digicel, Gizmos and Gadgets and Wendy’s Cellular Connections.

The children were entertained by Santa Claus, his elves, and Dora and friends from Courts Guyana Inc.

Adolph Thakur Tertiary Education Scholarship valued $800,000 in cash went to this year’s Essequibo Islands Secondary School top CSEC student Terrence Williams. This will enable him to further his studies at the University of Guyana. He also received a cellular phone, compliments of Digicel.

On December 13, 2015 GACF continued its quest by ensuring that more than 150 children of North Sophia Pentecostal Holiness Church were treated with gifts and toys.

Hopetown Primary School, West Coast Berbice teachers will be honoured while, the students who attained first to third places in classes were to receive tokens on December 20, 2015. Clothing would also be distributed to the less fortunate in that community.

GACF was registered in Guyana seven years ago and aims to improve the lives of children by creating a social movement that delivers effective health, education and nutritional programmes, to give children an opportunity to realise their personal achievement be it academically, artistically or within the realms of sports.
