THE GAFOOR Foundation has donated $2M to several charitable organisations at a simple ceremony at the Marriott Hotel on Tuesday. The organisations which benefitted from the kind gesture are the Dharam Shala, Help and Shelter, Convalescent Home, Deaf in Guyana, Association for the Visually Impaired, Ruimveldt Children Aid Centre and Joshua Home.

Administrator of The Gafoor Foundation Ameena Gafoor said the donation is in recognition of their significant contribution to society.

“The Gafoor Foundation recognises and supports the work of the tireless individuals who work, through NGOs [non-governmental organisations] and various other organisations, to make Guyanese society a better place. There are many areas that need attention for our society to become whole, e.g., illiteracy among youths, helping to ensure every child stays in school, physically challenged children, people in need of medical attention, psychologically challenged people who resort to drastic measure, the elderly and the many dilemmas that come with aging… to name only a few. So we try to put in our two cents worth and support as many worthy efforts as we can. Christmas is a time of giving but we must remember to sustain the momentum all year through.”

Recently, Gafsons Industries Limited treated more than 3,000 poor and less fortunate elderly and children at its Houston, East Bank Demerara complex as it joined members of the corporate community in ushering in the Christmas spirit.

The party hosted by Executive Chairman Sattaur Gafoor, attracted persons from all walks of life. They were treated to breakfast and lunch and they all received gifts.
