AMIDST the fun and joy of the Christmas Season, persons still lack the basic amenities which are needed to create a joyful atmosphere. As such the Guyana Oil Company Limited (GUYOIL) has decided to partner with the Guyana Relief Council (GRC) in assisting persons who have been the victims of disasters and other needy individuals.
Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle on Monday at the launch of the promotion geared at raising funds which will be handed over to the Council, acting Managing Director of GUYOIL Lesley Benjamin disclosed that, “every year the GRC requests monetary donations, and so far for this year we have contributed $60,000; but, however, we thought it best to partner with them in order to build the funds needed to assist the needy.”
The council, which is currently assisting over 40 persons who were victims of a disaster, either by losing their homes due to a fire or some other factor, needs maximum help from members of society who can afford it.
As such Benjamin stressed that the work of the council was an encouragement for society to do better.
Thus GUYOIL has embarked on a promotion, which will see barrels being placed at the company’s various branches nationwide, that will allow persons to deposit, lightly used or new kitchen utensils.
“Boxes will also be placed at the service stations and dealers, so if anyone has some change or monetary contribution, they may throw it into the box so it would be handed to the Relief Council before Christmas,” the acting Managing Director said.
GUYOIL encouraged persons to take part in the initiative so that it could be a success and persons who have experienced a tragedy could be helped.
In expressing her appreciation on behalf of the GRC, Administrative Officer of the Council, Lynette Carter commended the oil company for their commitment towards partnering with them to assist persons in need.
“We would like to encourage other businesses to follow GUYOIL’s example and commit themselves to assisting persons who have experienced disasters… as such we are appreciative of the efforts the company has put into this effort and look forward to a fruitful partnership,” said Carter.
