Wapichan people win Equator Prize
The South Central Peoples
Development Association (SCPDA),
which undertook a groundbreaking
project using GPS and smartphone
technology to create a map and
monitor lands traditionally used
by the Wapichan people, was on
Monday evening honoured with the
Equator Prize at the Climate Change
Conference ongoing in Paris. Here,

Development Programme (UNDP),
Helen Clarke, at a star-studded
ceremony at the Mogador Theatre
in Paris chaired by Hollywood actor
Alec Balwin. The Prize, run by UNDP
with funding from the Norwegian
Government, comes with US$10, 000
cash grant.
