CITY Magistrate Alex Moore yesterday sentenced Deolaran Raghubir to two months’ imprisonment for stealing one of the new green garbage bins that the Mayor and City is using to keep Georgetown and its environs clean.According to the charge, on Friday, December 4, 2015, at Brickdam, Georgetown, he stole one green garbage bin valued $17,000, property of the Mayor and City Council.

On the said date, Raghubir was taken to the Stabroek Outpost with the bin by a public-spirited citizen, who accused him of stealing the article from the St. Andrew’s Kirk’s Church compound.

He was arrested and charged, after which he told the rank: “I gon tell the truth: I remove the green bin which was placed on the pavement on Brickdam, between Water Street and High Street.”
He was warned by the magistrate not to commit another offence, since his penalty would be greater because he was charged before for an offence of related nature.
