As I look around, the buzz of changing times is rife and it feels spectacular. From countless “before and after” comparisons, to blatant improvements in key areas of governance- citizens (well, except a few bitter “losers”) are rejoicing at Guyana’s return to glory. #timechange and #changeisgood continue to ring around local cyberspace. First there’s Operation Dragnet which recently caught two of its own–a policeman who was part of a carjacking ring and on Saturday a GDF Lance Corporal- among others with illegal guns in their possession. This was a ripe discussion, as people nitpicked about which party really corrupted the joint services, to where exactly the corruption really stemmed from. While some have been quoted as calling it “operation embarrassment for the joint forces”, quite frankly I’ve never seen the citizens give this body so much praise, so are we to assume something is being done right?
On that note, Past Prez Donald Ramotar shared a post from The Piper- whoever that is in which he was credited for rightfully suggesting joint patrol- a suggestion for which he received spanks on his knuckles for from President Granger. The Piper noted that, only weeks later however, Operation Dragnet was born. The Past Prez did nothing more but left the post right there as though silently gloating over the pat on the back he received. While some may call it clutching at straws, I say every credit counts – especially when in the past four years of leadership, credit was something he probably forgot the meaning of.
Rejoicing in minor triumphs seems to be the tune of the opposition, lately. Anil is proudly claiming victory after Stabroek News reported that despite the Finance Ministry’s claims of otherwise, Fedders Lloyd was actually disqualified from the bidding process for the Specialty Hospital. I can’t dare repeat the language being shared in responses to his post from outraged onlookers, but Anil proudly claims that he’s “vindicated”. But are you Anil? Are you really?
Meanwhile, the “New Era for the Guyana Chronicle” is seemingly catching on. Following the paper’s highly warranted apology to Ramkarran for past instances of libelous reports made under previous leadership, popular social media vocalists have come forward with clear ovation. Fireball Ruel Johnson called it the end of the era where the state media is used as a medium of attack. Bravo Chronicle! Here’s to taking the wool off your eyes. Something tells me, there may be many more of these to come, considering what Chronicle was.
But it wasn’t all pats on the back for the publication; Moseley had a mouthful to say about the facelift, basically calling the entire thing anticlimactic in comparison to what he expected. Among his criticisms however, he offered what may be seen as sage advice. Okay Moseley, you made your point and I agree with the masses, your criticisms were fair but they’re a bit premature. Give them a chance. Sit back, relax and look on- as we know you most certainly will- then pounce- as we know you most certainly will- if indeed it turns out to be smoke and mirrors.
Stay tuned.
