Stag Beer Elite League 2015 Fruta versus Buxton, GFC against Monedderlust ………penultimate match day

THE 56-match schedule of the much talked about inaugural Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/ Stag Beer Elite League will climax this weekend with the final four games involving all eight competing teams.The penultimate match day action is set for the Georgetown Football Club’s ground this evening with a double-header that will showcase the two bottom teams as they battle to avoid propping up the points table.
In the feature game slated to kick off at 20:00hrs, 4th placed Fruta Conquerors will meet 2nd from the bottom Buxton United who have suffered the most defeats in the two-round League competition – 10 – while notching up three wins.
Conquerors on 19 points won the first round encounter 1-0 and will be looking to cement their place in the play-offs as they go in search of their 6th win and an unassailable 22 points. An upset or a draw by the Buxtonians will give the Guyana Defense Force a ray of hope to make it to the last four.
In the opening match, full excitement is anticipated when the youthful home-side tackle Monedderlust FC whose 6th position with 13 points is the only assured place going into the final round of matches.
The ‘Bourda Blues’ side will look to use home advantage to avenge the first round 2-1 loss and lift themselves from the cellars spot in a competition where they have conceded 30 goals, the most by any team.
The GFC unit will also have to depend on Conquerors to put away Buxton United later in the night. A win or draw for the West Berbician counterparts would be the first point(s) earned away from home this season.
The final two games to determine the order of the top 3 teams will be staged on Sunday at Camp Ayanganna ground where 3rd placed Pele FC on 24 points match skills with the Army in 5th place on 17 points.
The big match up for championship League honours will follow as leaders Alpha United on 26 points come up against 2nd placed Slingerz FC, one point less.
The top four teams will next contest the play-offs with number one meeting number four while number two will engage number three in the semi finals set for the GFC ground next Wednesday 25th November. The final and 3rd place games will be played at the Leonora Stadium next Sunday 29th November.
The winner of the play-offs will cash in on $4M, the runners-up $2M, 3rd place $1M and $500,000 to the 4th placed finisher.
