CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday committed attempted murder accused Ian Archibald to stand trial at the High Court – while releasing him on $300,000 bail.Archibald, a 40-year-old miner of Lot 91 East La Penitence Housing Scheme had made his first appearance before former chief magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on June 7, 2015 and was remanded after he had pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on Thursday, June 4, at Durban Street, Georgetown, with intent to commit murder, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded the virtual complainant Dwayne Wallace.
Nevertheless he was released on $500,000 bail by Chief Magistrate McLennan on September 7 and continued the rest of his legal proceeding before her with Attorney-at–Law Paul Fung-a-Fat as his lawyer and Police Sargent Neville Jeffers as the state prosecutor.
The miner was informed yesterday that a prima facie case had been made out against him, since there was enough evidence for the matter to be heard at the High Court.
Archibald, who was forced to remain at the Georgetown prison because, as he said, he could not afford the hefty bail was granted a reduction with the condition that he remains 50 feet away from the VC.
