MONEDDERLUST’S perfect home record is in jeopardy of being broken, when they come up against a ‘no-nonsense’ Slingerz FC tonight, as the STAG Elite League returns to the #5 ground, West Coast Berbice with another double-header. In the opening game from 19:00hrs, the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) will look to snap their three-game losing streaks as they face Buxton United.

However, all eyes will be fixed on the night’s second encounter between Monedderlust and Slingerz FC.
When the two teams met earlier in the tournament, Slingerz FC walked away 3-0 winners over the Berbice club, but with Monedderlust now playing at home, things could be different.
Berbice by far has had the biggest crowds in the league so far and it’s clear that the usually animated fans play a huge role in Monedderlust’s success to date.
In their first game at the West Coast Berbice facility, Monedderlust came from behind to defeat the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) 3-2 and in similar fashion, the side downed GFC 2-1.
In their most recent game at the famed venue, Alpha United were held 1-1, and the way the fans celebrated, one would have thought the side had won.
Clearly, Slingerz FC, despite their woes of not being able to use their foreign imports, are still one of the strongest teams in the competition.
Julian Wade, the team’s striker from Dominica, has had his way with defenders and has scored in two of the three games he played so far. Vurlon Mills, Dwain Jacobs, Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams and Colin Nelson are also pivotal players in the team’s success in the league.
Coach Gordon ‘Ultimate Warrior’ Braithwaite’s men are not the best defensive team in the league, having conceded 14 goals while only scoring seven.
Braithwaite will turn to forward Kevin Cottoy, Travis Henry and emerging defender Kevin Layne Jr as the Berbicians seek to create another upset in the STAG Elite League.
Meanwhile the GFC/Buxton United game could be an ‘eye candy’.
Buxton United, winning two of their previous three games, are on nine points and in sixth position in the league, while GFC are in the cellar with five points; winning one game, losing five and drawing two.
A win for Buxton United will push them to 12 points and ahead of GDF and Fruta Conquerors (both clubs on 11 points). When one considers GFC’s performance in their previous matches, victory for the East Coast team should be a foregone conclusion.
