Food For the Poor receives 40-foot container of donations from Carib Foods Inc

CARIB Foods Inc. donated on Thursday a 40-foot container packed with in excess of US$13,000 in items for the Food for the Poor (FFTP) countrywide food drive, which was launched recently. The donation, comprising various flavours of Campbell’s canned soup and toilet tissue, were handed over by Carib Food Operations Manager Kharishma Narine, who said it was the first time that Carib Foods had contributed toward the FFTP’s charity drive, and she pledged to continue donating.

Ms Narine is encouraging other companies to join in supporting Food for the Poor, since there are lots of needy people who are depending on the organisation’s charitable work.

“It [donating] is something nobody thinks about until you’re actually on hand and you get a feel of what is going on out there,” she said.

Meanwhile, a source from Food for the Poor explained that the donations of over five thousand cans of soup and toilet tissue will go towards the entity’s school feeding programme and to elderly care homes which it supports.

The source said the organisation supplies assistance to more than nine residential homes for elderly people and less fortunate children on a monthly basis, and the drive is ongoing.
