Football administrators of clubs affiliated to the Essequibo and Pomeroon Football Association (EAPFA) are disappointed that no member of the GFF’s N ormalisation Committee (NC) showed up for their scheduled elections on Saturday last at the Oasis Hotel in Queenstown, Essequibo Coast.Instead, they were greeted by Technical Development Officer of the GFF, Lyndon France who immediately told the gathering in attendance that there will be no Elections due to the absence of a member of the Electoral Committee.
France, while not giving any explanation or apology for the non appearance of the Electoral Committee member, then instructed the members to select a date this coming week to stage the Elections.
The new date is this coming Thursday 22nd October at the same venue and already the Wakapao FC representative, Benedict Williams has indicated that his club will not be represented because of the distance. Williams stated that he was travelling from early in the morning last Saturday so as to reach in time for the 16:00hrs meeting.
It was a general feeling of disappointment among the members who turned out in full numbers to cast their votes for the new executive of the EAPFA
The live wire of the Sport in the Region, President of Henrietta FC Maxine Stewart, who is tipped to take up the leadership, expressed her dissatisfaction with what transpired at the Oasis Hotel last Saturday.
“The clubs were all disappointed and wanted to stir up something but I had to quiet them down. We made every effort to be organized and be present for the elections. We had clubs there from since 4pm and it came as a shock to us when Mr. France related to us that there would be no elections”
“We are calling on Mr Chairman of the NC to come and let us have our elections on Thursday. We need our elections because for too long we have been starved in this country of the real benefits the sport offers to other Associations and members” Stewart lamented
In an invited comment Chairman of the Normalisation Committee, Clinton Urling revealed that the appointed member of the NC who was on the Essequibo Coast for another meeting was avoidably absent for the elections since his primary commitment went beyond schedule.
