DEMERARA Cricket Club (DCC) defeated the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) by 26 runs to reclaim the Carib Beer T20 first division title at the DCC ground, yesterday.Shurfane Rutherford was adjudged the man-of-the-match for his entertaining performance with the bat and ball. He blasted a quick fire 37 from 20 balls which included three fours and as many sixes in the DCC total of 170 all out, from their allotted overs.
Kevin Boodie (40) top scored for the home team opening the batting with Brian Sattaur (10). Sattuar departed with the score on 19 then Jamal Hinckson (01) followed six runs after. The skipper Christopher Barnwell (10) did not stick around for long either which brought Rutherford to the middle with Boodie.
The two National Under-19 batsmen put on a 66-run partnership that spiked the run rate and made way for another little cameo.
However, GCC claimed three wickets in the space of three runs as Rutherford was the first to go on 109. Boodie followed with the score on 110 while Jahron Byron (01) was dismissed on 119.
The wicketkeeper Kemol Savory spanked 34 from 13 balls with three boundaries and three maximums down the order to shift the weight of the match even as wickets continued to fall. Dennis Squires pitched in with 10 while Paul Wintz made 7.
Ronsford Beaton led the bowling for GCC with 3 – 38 while Leon Johnson bagged 2 – 29. Raj Nanan and Devon Lord supported with one wicket each.
GCC struggled in reply after a poor start. Openers Jeetendra Sookedeo (08) and Vishaul Singh (04) along with Johnson (05) were all removed cheaply before Raymond Reifer and Robin Bacchus tried to stage a recovery.
Reifer rounded up 38 from 36 balls while Bacchus was stopped on 20 facing his 19th delivery. Ronaldo Ali Mohammed was removed without scoring while Nanan turned in 17 from nine balls. Reifer fell and took the score to 110 – 7. Not long after the asking rate became more than GCC could offer.
Elon Fernandes battled for his 21 late in the order while Anthony Adams (05) and Devon Lord (01) were unbeaten when the overs expired with GCC on 141 – 8.
Under-15 National Ashmead Nedd, Rutherford and Squires shared two wickets a piece while Barnwell had one.
