GCC take Hadi’s first division title

AN EASY victory by the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) handed them this year’s Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Hadi’s two-day first-division cricket title after defeating the Guyana Defence Force by an innings and 66 runs

Playing at Bourda, the GDF took first strike but only managed to post a meagre score of 89 after the first session was washed out due to early Saturday morning showers.

Ducks were the order of the day as almost half the GDF line-up never got going. The side relied heavily on Nial Smith (33 not out) and Randy Lindore (24) who posted 46 for the seventh wicket.

Raj Nanan was the chief destroyer for GCC, bagging 4-37 while West Indies ‘A’ team pacer Ronsford Beaton had 2-21 and pacer Joshua Wade (2-17).

GCC ended day one at 131-7 with a first-innings lead of 41 runs and came back on day two to add another 49 runs – Nanan scoring 44 and Beaton 26.

Lindore finished with 3-50 while Jomal La Fleur took 3-38.

Needing just 91 to avoid defeat and make GCC bat again, the GDF crumbled for an even lower 25 – the lowest total of the tournament – thus handing GCC the title.

Nanan added two wickets more to his tally to end with 6 for 42 while left-arm spinner Anthony Adams bagged 5-7 in the demolition of the GDF, as only opener Leon Andrews with 10 offered any real fight.
