FOLLOWING a Stabroek News report yesterday alleging that the police in Linden assaulted a man to force him to confess to a murder, Commissioner of Police Seelall Persaud has directed that the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) conduct a probe.A female relative reported that her nephew was beaten into submission while in police custody in Linden and forced to confess to a murder he did not commit.
The police, in a press release, said yesterday that pursuant to an article published in the Stabroek News of August 20, 2015, under the caption “Woman says Linden police beat nephew to confess murder,” Commissioner of Police Seelall Persaud has directed the Police Office of Professional Responsibility to conduct an investigation into the allegation.
