THIRTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD John Hercules who resides at the East La Penitence Night Shelter was yesterday sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to breaking into a sports bar and carting off cash and liquor.
The case against Hercules was that on August 08, at Thomas Lands in Georgetown, he broke and entered the Malteenoes Sports Bar and stole $18,000 cash, one bottle of XL rum worth $2,000, one bottle of Johnny Walker Black Label whiskey worth $10,000, and two packets of cigarettes.
But police ranks on patrol duty, acting on information received, when to the Malteenoes Sports Bar and found the defendant there. Cautioned, he admitted to breaking into the bar; and when searched, the stated items were found with him.
The prosecution explained that Hercules was a repeat offender who, two years ago, had been convicted for a similar offence before the Court One magistrate.
Hercules had been charged indictably, but on application by Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones, the Administration of Justice Act (AJA) was applied, and the defendant was able to plead guilty.
