NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD Trevon Benn of Grant Burnt Bush, Lower Pomeroon River, was killed at about 22:00 hrs last Monday night when the boat he was piloting and which was outfitted with a 40hp outboard engine, crashed into a tree in the Akawani Creek.Reports are that the teenager and a friend were on their way to Akawani for a joyride when Benn, who was reportedly captaining the boat, allegedly lost control while navigating some floating weeds. The boat reportedly slammed into a tree and pinned the captain to death.

Benn’s friend, who reportedly escaped with minor injuries, used his cellphone to summon help. Police are investigating the accident.
