GAIRY St Clair had his last fight on Guyana soil on April 21, 1999. On that night, he defeated Trinidadian Alric Johnson in a 10-round bout.St Clair won the contest on points. It was sweet revenge for the Guyanese as Johnson, 13 years St Clair’s senior, had whipped three of his countrymen (Wayne Briggs, Gordon Carew and Winston Goodridge).

St Clair next challenged the-then world rated `Vicious’ Vivian Harris and was adjudged the loser by the judges at the end of the 10-rounder.
That fight was held in the USA and televised live by ESPN. On July 29, 2006 St Clair joined a distinguished list that included Andrew `Six Head’ Lewis, Wayne `Big Truck’ Braithwaite and `Vicious’ Vivian Harris as male Guyanese boxers to win world titles.
The skilful orthodox boxer defeated South African Cassius Baloyi to take both the International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Organisation super featherweight titles. The victory made him only the second Guyanese to win two world titles at the same time, following Harris’ feat in October 2002.
`Superman’ turned 40 in February and is still active in his adopted country Australia. He has been victorious in his last four fights and was engaged in 60 bouts, winning 46, losing 12 and drawing two.
