LEYRONE Sandiford, called ‘Stammer’, two weeks ago pleaded guilty to having sex with a nine-year-old child, and Judge Franklyn Holder postponed sentence to yesterday to await a probation report.Following the presentation of the report yesterday, the plait-haired accused was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment.

Before imposing sentence the judge noted the frequency with which the particular offence is being committed and expressed the hope that the sentence imposed would have a deterrent effect upon the accused and other would be offenders.
The accused took the sentence calmly as he walked from the dock in chains to begin serving his jail sentence.
